Making a Difference with Duct Cleaning and Sealing
One of the many impacts of the pandemic has been homeowner awareness of indoor air quality. Cleaner, healthier air has never been more important. Dirty ducts are often the cause of the accumulation of dust particle crowding over top of a ceiling fan or coil. They lead to shorter equipment life and more frequent filter replacements, and increases dust in a home.
“Clean, Seal, Succeed: Differentiate Your Business with One Easy Add”, Aeroseal’s latest webinar, looks at how the combination of cleaning and sealing air ducts will differentiate you from competitors while increasing customer loyalty and revenue.
The discussion was led by Tracy Martin along with two Aeroseal dealers to discuss how duct cleaners are setting a new standard for indoor air quality:
MJ Palazzolo, Safety King
Tom Keys, Atlantic Duct Cleaning
Dirty Duct Work Has Many Health Implications
The discussion begins on emphasizing the “why” of duct cleaning by describing the possible health implications when ducts remain upkept. A term familiar to the entire ductwork industry is “Sick Building Syndrome”, a result of inadequate cleaning. This can lead to symptoms of illness (wheezing, coughing, difficulty breathing, etc.).
Not to mention the stuff potentially hiding in vents along with dust particles such as dust mites, pollen, mold, bacteria, etc.
Additional results of dirty ducts are restrictions on airflow and an increased amount of dust in the home. Dust can decrease the lifespan of equipment around a home such as a ceiling fan or a television, which are known to be magnets for dust particles. It is also important to maintain HVAC equipment to ensure the indoor air quality (IAQ) remains efficient.
However, duct cleaning is only part of the solution as it does not assist with future build up inside the duct work.

The “Clean and Seal” Opportunity
Duct cleaning and duct sealing as a bundle is a win-win opportunity for contractors. They receive potential for growth and added revenue while homeowners gain confidence and satisfaction. Additionally, this opens the door for education for the homeowner and differentiation against other businesses.
“It really makes us a more sophisticated service,” say Palazzolo “as this industry can be seen as janitorial.“
