Meet Justin: An R&D Tech Turning Ideas into Reality

On his first day on the job, Justin instantly felt at home with the disarray and commotion of Aeroseal’s Innovation Division.

As the center of Aeroseal’s ongoing research and development efforts, the room is home to many different projects. It’s also filled with multiple workspaces, each outfitted with plenty of tools. They sit across the aisle from racks of bins filled with small parts, nuts, bolts, and other supplies.

This scene may sound chaotic, or even confusing to some, but it’s one of the reasons Justin loves his job. “My days are never the same,” he says.

Justin is an R&D Technician in Aeroseal’s Innovation Division. He joined the team in January 2020. After a career in logistics, Justin had worked hard to become a part of upper management. This work ethic led him to Aeroseal, as well as the opportunity to do what he loves most: using his hands to turn ideas into reality.

On Joining a Learning Organization
Justin’s desire to learn new things has helped him to succeed at Aeroseal while forming closer bonds with his colleagues.

“The employees here are as cool as they come. People from across the company reach out to me to just talk.

“Everyone is interested in learning more. And I have a sponge for a brain. So I’m very glad I joined this team.”

The fact that Aeroseal is a company focused on learning ties back to one of its core values: Have a Growth Mindset. To help its employees learn more, Aeroseal has a number of programs in place, including its weekly, company-wide Zoom learning sessions and a book reimbursement program.

Justin loves having a growth mindset. He has always had a creative mind and wants to challenge himself, create, or improve something. And being an R&D Technician allows him to focus on this type of work.

Justin’s Impact on the Company Mission

When it comes to the skills critical to Justin’s role, communications is at the top of the list. In fact, Justin starts each day by logging on and catching up with any new messages, then goes through morning huddles and team updates to ensure everyone is on the same page.

After that, Justin’s day is self-guided. Currently, he is spending a lot of time with product development — planning, drawing, and building. He also utilizes his expert computer skills for finding specific data, parts, and other elements for the projects he works on.
