Seal Your Home

The Overlooked Home Maintenance Tip for Winter

Recently, the Tysons Reporter published its Homeowners Winter Survival Guide, and it mentioned a lot of helpful information for effectively and efficiently heating homes in winter. However, it overlooked the importance of air ducts in houses. Read the Tysons article here.

When homeowners think of their homes’ heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, they typically reference thermostats, air filters, and vents/registers. However, the air ducts are what actually distributes conditioned air (heat or AC) to the desired rooms/spaces in a house (or building).

Proper air duct maintenance is critical to ensuring your home is heated efficiently and effectively in the winter season. Coincidentally, the most overlooked home maintenance tip for winter is duct sealing.

Seal Your Air Ducts for Better Heating in Winter

When air ducts in homes are not properly sealed, there are holes/cracks/seams, large and small, present in ductwork that cause conditioned air from the furnace to “leak out” before it reaches the air vents in your rooms.

Do you Notice Little or No Heat Flowing from Your Registers?

Your HVAC system is using energy to push conditioned air through your ductwork and into your living spaces. When your duct system contains leaks this conditioned air is actually pushed into your attic, crawlspace, or basement.

Sealing your ductworks will allow your system to properly heat (and cool) your home by keeping conditioned air where you want it.
