Aeroseal Selected for New York-Based Climate Tech Accelerator
The Clean Fight NY helps startups advance ways to meet carbon reduction mandates, while making economic impact and creating jobs
New York, NY (November 16, 2021) — The Clean Fight New York, a not-for-profit climate-tech accelerator, today announced its second cohort of startups working to decarbonize and electrify the mass of New York’s non-luxury residential and commercial buildings including below market rate, affordable housing.
Aeroseal is one of only nine companies selected for The Clean Fight’s second cohort from a field of more than 135 companies. Launched in 2020, The Clean Fight is on a mission to find the most promising growth-stage clean energy startups to quickly scale in New York. It is supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and New Energy Nexus.
“This cohort has the technologies and capabilities to enhance the
sustainability, adaptability, and affordability of real estate infrastructure.”
— Kate Frucher, The Clean Fight
“While many of the solutions needed to decarbonize New York’s buildings already exist, we must work with urgency to help them scale,” said Kate Frucher, Managing Director of The Clean Fight. “This cohort has the technologies and capabilities to enhance the sustainability, adaptability, and affordability of real estate infrastructure. And we are thrilled to provide each startup with the resources to properly scale their solutions statewide.”
Building Decarbonization Startups Target Three Key Areas
The nine startups chosen for Cohort Two will participate in a six-month program to help the scale in NY state. They represent three areas of clean technology supporting building decarbonization – envelope efficiency, smart electrification, and advanced optimization.
- Envelope Efficiency startups include Aeroseal, CleanFiber, and Indow. Each company’s technology improves energy efficiency by increasing air tightness of the building envelope.
- Smart Electrification startups Allume Energy, SWTCH Energy, and Urban Electric Power look at improving buildings’ generation, use, and storage of energy.
- Advanced Optimization technologies from startups Flair, Pearl Certification, and Runwise make it easier for homeowners and facility managers to save energy while experiencing a variety of other benefits.
“The Clean Fight NY understands how critical it is to decarbonize the world’s homes and buildings,” says Amit Gupta, Aeroseal’s CEO. “Programs like this will help Aeroseal accelerate its plans to reduce carbon emissions in buildings by 1 gigaton annually. Other states should take notice based on the economic impact and potential for job creation programs like The Clean Fight NY are having nationally.”
Buildings Are Fueling Climate Crisis
As the urgency to address the climate crisis continues to accelerate, building infrastructure generates 30% of New York State’s carbon emissions and 70% of New York City’s. The startups selected are enabling the deep decarbonization of buildings through electrification, advanced efficiency, demand flexibility, and resilience. By zeroing in on older, Class B and C buildings, these startups are staged to generate equitable climate impacts while providing health, comfort, and savings benefits to front-line and underserved communities most impacted by the climate crisis.
